This may read “out of the box” but guilt is an emotion tied strongly to lust. We hunger and crave to hold on to the things we ultimately will find useless. Guilt is within. It tears the core of our hearts. Thus, leading our demise and destruction. We want to let go but how can we? We feel a sense of comfort in our beliefs that both Hester and Dimmesdale are normal creatures with normal behaviors. Yes, their behavior is more common than we suppose. Most people can identify with these two characters because they are not honest. Lust is a hidden craving. We don’t express it openly. We just act it out. Kudos, to THE POET.
